Antibiotic Treatment

If you need antibiotics as part of your dental care for periodontal disease, our team offers antibiotic treatments. Our dentist may recommend an antibiotic treatment to combat gum disease and begin the process of restoring your oral health. Antibiotic treatment, also known as antimicrobial therapy, is often an excellent treatment option for periodontal disease. It may be used as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with other periodontal treatments to improve your oral health.

If it is determined that an antibiotic gum treatment will benefit you, our dentist will most likely perform scaling and root planing to clear away plaque and tartar from your mouth. In more severe cases, your antibiotic therapy may be preceded by gum surgery. The antibiotic medicine will then be placed directly into the infected periodontal pockets to fight bacteria. Antibiotics used in fighting periodontal disease usually contain doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline, amoxicillin, macrolide or metronidazole. Common antibiotics used in gum disease treatment include ARESTIN®, PerioChip®, ATRIDOX®, Actisite® and Elyzol®.

Please follow all instructions provided by our dentist after you leave our office. Following post-treatment care instructions and maintaining a thorough oral hygiene routine will maximize the effectiveness of your treatment and help your mouth heal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a sinus lift and implant be done at the same time?

Depending on your oral health and severity of your procedure, a dental implant might be able to be placed at the same time as a sinus augmentation. Sinus lift surgery has proven to increase your chances for successful implants that can last for years to come.

When you visit for your initial consultation, our team will be able to better understand your condition and determine whether or not these two procedures can be done during one appointment.

Does root canal therapy hurt?

Though root canal therapy has a scary reputation, it’s usually not painful. Most patients compare it to receiving a tooth filling.
